ISLAMABAD: Saudi ambassador to Pakistan, Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, on Thursday praised Pakistani mangoes in a tweet that has since gone viral.
Mangoes are a source of national joy and pride in Pakistan and in major demand in markets in the Middle East, Europe and Australia. This year, the All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Association announced a mango export target of 150, 000 metric tons, which would generate $127.5 million in revenue.
Pakistan is the world’s fifth-largest mango producer, after India, China, Thailand and Indonesia, according to Pakistan’s Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
“It [Pakistan] is famous for its mangoes, because at present more than a hundred varieties of mangoes are produced in Pakistan,” Al-Malki wrote on Twitter. “Do you know these varieties? Share with me pictures of mangoes, their varieties and the benefits of mangoes.”

The tweet has since received thousands of likes and re-tweets, with many social media users sharing pictures of their preferred varieties and providing details of the benefits of the fruit.
